Club Highlights

  • San Diego Chess Club maintains its own facility in beautiful and historic Balboa Park
  • One of the largest clubs in the country with about 160 members ranging from beginner to master
  • Tournaments held Wednesday evenings (one round per week, slower time control) and Saturdays (four round rapid event, game in forty-five minutes with five second delay)
  • Children's tournaments hosted quarterly
  • Hosts multiple large annual events including the Southern California Open, SCCF Senior/Junior Open, Dreaming King Open and the San Diego County Championship
  • Meeting place for the Jedi Knights Club, instructional chess for children, meeting Fridays from 6:30 to 9:00


Prices

Club Membership (for most members this is charged at the beginning of the calendar year and is prorated later in the year. New members pay full year price at membership purchase date.)
  • Regular $72
  • Seniors, active military $60
  • Juniors $48
  • Entry fees
    • Wednesday Night Tournament (5 or 6 rounds) is $25. (7:00 PM Round)
    • Saturday four round rapid tournament is $25 or $30. Club membership is not required until players win $100 in prizes. (10:00 AM Registration, 10:30 First Round)
  • Please note: USCF Registration is required for all tournament play. Please register for the USCF at the club. USCF dues are for a full year.


Other Amenities

  • Extensive library of instructional books available to club members.
  • Chess equipment available for sale: Chess pieces, boards, bags, chess clocks and score pads.
